The Costa Blanca
‘The White Coast’, or Costa Blanca, is located on the Mediterranean coast in the south east of Spain, from Denia to Pilar de la Horadada, also known as the Alicante province.
The south of the region enjoys one of the healthiest climates in the world with an average daily temperature of 21 degrees and over 300 days of sun per year.
The concentration of salt in the lagoons to the south of Alicante help draw moisture out of the air. Combined with a very low annual rainfall, this results in a unique microclimate which is particularly beneficial to arthritis, rheumatism and asthma sufferers.
The weather alone makes the Costa Blanca an ideal place to retire, spend holidays or live permanently, whilst enjoying a more stress-free, healthier lifestyle.
The Costa Blanca has two very different landscapes; to the north, a mountain range stretches along a considerable length of the coast, whilst in the south, the terrain is flatter, with endless fertile plains and paradise beaches. Orchards, olive groves and valleys of palm trees are everywhere on the Costa Blanca but one of the area’s special attractions must be its truly cosmopolitan atmosphere. People of all nationalities have chosen to settle here, whether for work, health, retirement or simply the good life.
Like the Costa del Sol, the Costa Blanca is another favourite destination with golfers, and magnificent courses proliferate. Many new-build resorts are situated around lakes and golf courses, creating a miniature community where the emphasis is firmly on relaxation.
The Costa Blanca’s sandy beaches are always popular places to meet, sun-worship or try out the many different watersports on offer. The beaches are a very high standard, being clean, safe and well equipped.
Although the Spanish way of life is more laid back than in the UK, socialising is taken very seriously and whatever your preference, you will always find plenty of life in the evening in the many bars, nightclubs, restaurants and cafés in the main resorts.

The Costa Del Sol
‘The Sun Coast’ is known and loved for so many things by so many people.
The Costa Del Sol’s hot summers and mild winters attract many Britons wanting to escape the harsh winter weather at home.
Monthly average temperatures range from 17 degrees in January to 90 degrees in August and an average 320 days a year of brilliant sunshine ensure you have plenty of time to indulge in the many activities available in the area.
Spain is a golfer’s paradise and the Costa del Sol is no exception with several courses to challenge players at every level, from novice to championship.
The Costa del Sol’s golden sandy beaches stretch for miles and miles and offer something for everyone. Sunbathing is one of the most popular ways to while away the days on the beach but there are watersports in abundance to challenge even the most energetic.
After a day on the beach or the golf course, you will find plenty of nightlife. Eating out is a real pleasure on the Costa del Sol, with restaurants to suit every taste and budget. The traditional Spanish cuisine featured on many menus will delight fish lovers. Try a plate of Spanish Tapas followed by Paella, accompanied by a glass of one of Spain’s fine wines. Look out to sea towards the coast of Africa at a spectacular sunset and you will truly believe that you are in paradise. The Costa del Sol is not just about sun, sea and socialising, many would argue that the region’s biggest attractions are among the beautiful old towns. Fine examples of Moorish architecture are in evidence everywhere.
An easy drive away, Gibraltar is also a great place to visit. The old town offers some wonderful sightseeing and a break for lunch after a hard morning duty free shopping.
For a complete contrast, a two hour car drive will take you to the Sierra Nevada, where you can ski at over 3,300 metres above sea level, or take the ferry to Morocco to experience the exotic taste of Africa. |
